From Capstone to Global Impact: A Conversation with Samira Malik
Behind every ambitious education initiative is a system that helps turn ideas into sustainable impact.
For Samira Malik, R.O.S.A.’s Advancement Strategy & Operations Expert, that connection between education, strategy, equity, and organizational infrastructure is at the heart of her work. Through her graduate studies at Northeastern University, Samira had the opportunity to collaborate with R.O.S.A. on a capstone project focused on developing the learning framework behind TTT (Training Teachers for Tomorrow) Academy, our system-integrated e-learning platform for educators in Zanzibar.
The platform is being developed through the Cisco Foundation Cash Grant 2026, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the Zanzibar Institute of Education, as part of R.O.S.A.’s ongoing ReCoding Africa initiative.
Why R.O.S.A.?
When choosing a project for her graduate capstone, Samira saw an opportunity to bring together several areas that have shaped both her academic and professional journey.
“I chose the Platform Blueprint project for my graduate capstone because it brought together several areas that are important to me: education, strategy, equity, and creating systems that can have a meaningful impact.”
Her work focused on developing a structured learning framework that could help translate R.O.S.A.’s vision for a global nonprofit education platform into a scalable learning experience.
Turning Academic Research Into Real-World Impact
Working collaboratively with R.O.S.A. President and Program Director Mariarosy Calleri, she was given the opportunity to research, think strategically, and develop recommendations intended for real-world implementation.
“What I valued most was the opportunity to work collaboratively with Mariarosy, while also being trusted to think strategically, conduct research, and provide recommendations that could actually be used beyond the classroom.”
That work contributed to the broader foundation of TTT Academy, which is designed to support the professional and personal development of teachers in Zanzibar through areas including digital literacy, AI in education, leadership, communication, cybersecurity, social and emotional learning, and teaching methodologies.
Building Systems That Make Impact Sustainable
Samira holds a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration and is now continuing her academic journey as an Ed.D. student. Her professional career has similarly centered on strengthening the strategy, operations, and infrastructure behind mission-driven organizations.
Her experience with R.O.S.A. reinforced an idea that continues to guide her work: lasting social impact requires strong systems behind the mission.
