More than a Skills-Based Curriculum

The ReCoding Africa TTT – Training Teachers for Tomorrow Program has achieved remarkable outcomes in professional development, digital literacy and pedagogical innovation. Over these weeks of training in Zanzibar, teachers gained practical skills in ICT integration, active learning strategies and student-centred methodologies, tools that will have a long-term impact on their classrooms and communities.

The Human Connections Built Through the ReCoding Africa TTT Program

Yet, among the achivements of the program, one element has stood out as deeply transformative: the human connections that were formed. Beyond the structured sessions, learning platforms and classroom exercises, this program became a space where teachers, trainers and partners built relationships rooted in mutual respect, empathy and shared purpose.

These connections did not emerge from the delivery of the TTT curriculum alone. They grew gradually through the rhythm of daily collaboration. Working side by side on team assignments, reflecting on challenges together, exchanging perspectives, sharing tea breaks and discovering personal stories all contributed to an environment where trust could flourish. Small acts of kindness, supportive conversations and collective problem-solving transformed the training space into a community.

This feeling was beautifully captured by one of our trainees, who sent us a heartfelt message after the closing ceremony:

“The beautiful time we shared during the course is still in my heart and continues to touch my soul. It was truly a wonderful experience to be together and learn from all of you. Thank you for everything you gave to us.”

Messages like this remind us that the true legacy of the ReCoding Africa TTT Program extends far beyond professional upskilling. They echo what we at R.O.S.A. believe at the core of our mission: education is first and foremost a human encounter. It is shaped not only by knowledge transfer but also by empathy, dialogue and the meaningful relationships that grow between people who come together with the intention to learn and to support one another.

The relationships built through this program reflect the collaborative ecosystem behind ReCoding Africa, supported by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Zanzibar, the Cisco Foundation, the Italian Embassy in Tanzania and many dedicated volunteers and local partners. Each stakeholder contributes not only expertise but also a sincere willingness to engage, listen and uplift others.

This environment allowed teachers to feel valued, encouraged and inspired. It empowered them to express their aspirations, share their challenges and recognise their own potential. It also allowed trainers and volunteers to learn from the lived experiences, cultural knowledge and perspectives of Zanzibar’s educators, creating a rich two-way exchange based on openness and mutual appreciation.

These human bonds are, in many ways, the invisible architecture of the program, the foundation that will sustain collaboration long after the training sessions end. They strengthen networks among teachers, nurture new friendships and deepen the trust that is essential for future initiatives.

At the closing ceremony, the trainees surprised the TTT instructors with beautiful gifts, including a personalised cup featuring their photo and a heartfelt dedication. The message on the cup captured the spirit of this impactul journey: “Thank you, TTT Program, for inspiring us to grow, shine and transform education in Zanzibar. Your impact is lasting.”

At R.O.S.A., we believe that real impact grows from connection. When people feel seen, respected and supported, change becomes not only possible but sustainable. The ReCoding Africa TTT experience in Zanzibar reminds us that while technology and innovation are essential pillars of progress, the most powerful force in education will always be the relationships we build. These connections are what strengthen communities, empower leaders and transform futures.

As we look toward future editions of the program, we carry these stories with us. They remind us that the heart of education lies in people coming together, learning from one another and creating bonds that last far beyond any single project.
